Costco does not have a senior discount, and it never has. What it does have are quiet ways for a retiree on a fixed income to get back far more than the membership fee. I checked every one of these against Costco’s own pages. The full list is right below.

By federal law, no membership is needed to use a Costco pharmacy. Tell the greeter you are going to the pharmacy and walk to the counter.
Worth: cash prices on common generics are among the lowest in the country.
In most states the exam is done by an independent optometrist who can see you without a membership. Buying the glasses does need a membership.
A member can buy you a Costco Shop Card, and you can shop with it. Note: since they began scanning at the door, some stores push back, so going in beside a member is the sure way.
The old Kirkland hearing aid was discontinued in 2022. Today the brands are Jabra, Rexton, Philips, and Sennheiser, about $1,000 to $1,700 a pair versus $3,500 to $7,000 at a clinic. Free test. Roughly 180-day trial.
Free for members. Extra discount on the cash price of many generics. Not insurance, cannot be run through Medicare or a private plan.
Shingles, flu, pneumonia, and RSV shots at the pharmacy. Many are $0 to you through Medicare.
A price ending in .99 is regular. Ending in .97 means it is marked down and clearing out. A small * (asterisk) in the top right corner means it will not be restocked, so stock up now. Endings in .00 or .88 are the deepest markdowns.
If Costco drops the price on something you bought within 30 days, you are owed the difference. Bring the item number to Member Services (no receipt needed), or use the online form.
The house brand is often the same product as the name brand for less. Compare the price per unit and switch on the things you buy again and again.
Usually 15 to 35 cents a gallon under the corner station, and it is certified Top Tier quality, not cheap fuel. Membership required for the pumps.
Bring your own tank to a warehouse that refills by the gallon. Almost always beats the swap cages, and you keep your good tank. Call ahead, not every store has it.
Member savings come off automatically at the register. Time your regular buys to the month they appear in the book.
The $1.50 hot dog combo and the $4.99 rotisserie chicken are loss leaders held for decades. Membership now scanned at the window.
Order through Costco for about half of what a bank charges, shipped free. Executive members save more.
Restaurant and service gift cards sold under face value. And hiring a Costco-approved home installer earns you 10% back on a Costco cash card.
The Senior Savings Handbook covers 150+ verified discounts, programs and bill‑cutting moves like these, at the grocery store, the pharmacy, on your phone bill, your insurance, and the quiet monthly charges you stopped reading years ago. Large print, printable worksheets, free updates forever.

Prearranged member pricing on new and used cars. Savings often $1,000 or more. A hard negotiator can sometimes beat it, but it spares you the fight.
Car and home coverage through Connect (American Family). Often a few hundred dollars a year under average. Not in every state. Always compare 2 or 3 quotes first.
Member pricing on cruises, packages, hotels, and rental cars, usually with extras thrown in. Executive members earn 2% back on the trip.
The price includes free delivery, free installation, and free haul-away of the old one, plus a warranty extended to 2 years and a free tech support line.
Buy tires here and get free rotation, balancing, flat repair, and air for the life of the tires, plus a 5-year road hazard warranty.
Gold Star is $65 a year. Executive is $130 and pays 2% back (up to $1,250 a year), plus a $10 monthly delivery credit. Break-even on the upgrade is about $3,250 a year in spending.
Your membership already includes a second card for another adult at your address. Families often share an Executive membership and split the cost.
If it was not worth it, cancel any time for a full refund of the fee. The membership is a no-risk trial, not a bet you are stuck with.
It is still no time limit on most items, but electronics and appliances are 90 days, and in 2026 they are looking harder at old and worn returns. The in-store lookup may not reach back much past 18 months.
For one or two people, lean on what never spoils (paper, batteries, vitamins), freeze meat in meal-sized portions, and skip the giant fresh items that turn before you finish them.
This checklist is my thank-you for being here. If you would like the whole thing, every discount, benefit, and scam warning I have found, written large-print for our eyes with printable worksheets, I put it all in The Senior Savings Handbook. Either way, keep this one with my thanks.
